Whisky Tours with Journey Scotland

Whisky has been distilled in Scotland for hundreds of years and the term ‘whisky’ derives originally from the Gaelic ‘uisge beatha’, or ‘usquebaugh’, meaning ‘water of life’. Your whisky journey will let you experience the history of whisky in Scotland and give you an understanding of how it is distilled as well as enjoying a dram or two on the way! The following are sample tours but we are more than happy to design a tour if there is a particular distillery or place you wish to visit. There's no shortage of distilleries to visit in Scotland should you wish to go further afield such as Islay, The Highlands and Speyside for a few days. Contact us with your requirements.

The Capital Whisky Journey

Glenkinchie is a Scotch single malt whisky, produced at the Glenkinchie Distillery in East Lothian near Edinburgh. It is one of only three remaining Lowland malt whiskies in production. Here you can see the distillers at work employing the excellent Scottish barley and pure clear water from the nearby Lammermuir Hills in the making of a capital malt in every respect. An exhibition of malt whisky is housed in the listed red brick buildings and a dram in the distillery bar usually satisfies any further thirst for knowledge.

You'll then be taken to the Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre where the interactive Scotch Whisky tour is a fun experience for everyone. Learn all about Scotch Whisky including the characters who helped make it the world's biggest selling single source spirit in the world! Finally you'll be taken on a brief sightseeing tour of the historic City of Edinburgh.

The Highland Whisky Journey

From your collection point we'll head North to the Tullibardine distillery which is situated on the doorstep of the world famous Gleneagles. The distillery is nestled at the foot of the Ochil Hills in Perthshire which are renowned for the crystal purity of their spring water. To this day the distillery draws the crystal pure spring water, which flows past the brewery from the Ochil Hills, the same source which fed the first public brewery in Scotland and where King James IV purchased beer to celebrate his coronation in 1488.

We'll then go onto Glenturrett, Scotland's oldest distillery, for the Famous Grouse Experience. Here you'll see every step of the process, from how they grind the barley in the mill, through the mashing, fermenting and distilling processes, right up to the magical years of maturing, which give the whisky its unique character.

We'll then head North to the Dewar's World of Whisky. Here you can explore one of the greatest brands of Scotch whisky ever created in an innovative and interactive five star exhibition that educates and entertains. The experience includes a guided distillery tour where you can see the Aberfeldy spirit being produced and afterwards, the chance to taste a selection of whiskies in the nosing and tasting bar. On to the historical City of Dunkeld before heading home.
